Girdwood's Secret Climbing Wall
SECRET BOULDERING WALL IN GIRDWOOD
Did you know there is a secret bouldering wall in Girdwood? Only the locals know it exists and now you do too. To find this secret climb, head to Glacier Creek bridge on Alyeska Highway. Park in the town square parking lot and look for the bike path. Walk on the bike path towards Alyeska Mountian and the Bridge. Right before you get to the bridge take the dirt path that heads down to Glacier Creek. Under the bridge, you will see murals that have been painted on the bridge columns. Make your way across the first little stream to the second column and you will find bouldering footholds. You have to look to find the footholds otherwise you will miss them in the picture!
WHAT’S UP WITH THE MURALS?
Girdwood is known in Alaska as a “hippy town”. It’s quite common to see home-made signs with peace and love displayed on them. It’s what makes Girdwood so unique and enduring. Under the bridge, local artists have painted some color, beautiful murals that truly displays the Girdwood culture. In 2020, some vandals tarnished them and the locals quickly came together to fix the damage. The update is just as good as the original artist rendition.
